Carols in a Candlelit Cave

24 Nov 2024

09.30—17.00

On the way between Ambleside and Coniston the road goes through Little Langdale before going over the mountains to the west coast.

Join Lakeland Voices for a day of singing seasonal songs in a beautiful Lake District valley – and then singing them on a walk to a magnificent cavern, and at a Lakeland pub. The walk is short, the views are terrific, the craic is great!

We’ll start with a singing workshop learning tunes and harmonies for a number of folk carols in a hall with lovely views over Little Langdale valley. Then a shared lunch, and a short walk via Little Langdale tarn and the iconic Slaters’ Bridge to the nearby Cathedral cavern.

We will light the cave with over 100 candles, and after singing enjoy a Jacobs Join cave feast (bring traditional cave food and mulled wine to share.) Then we walk by the river to the Three Shires Inn for more singing by the fire.

Please dress for winter hillwalking – stout walking boots or shoes essential, and also head torch, waterproofs, warm clothes – sticks will help balance. Coffee and tea provided – please bring food to share for lunch.

Lift shares can be arranged. Parking is restricted so please share lifts where possible and arrive early.

We will sing songs which Lakeland Voices learn every week on Tuesday evenings in Castle Street and at the Dent Folk Carols festival. Songs can be sent in advance for practice at home – scores, word booklets, and recordings of the individual parts.

“So lift your voices high with songs of festive cheer, we wish you joy and harmony throughout the coming year.”
