Badass Women in Folk Song is a 6 week class over zoom that teaches a one-of-a-kind collection of ballads and songs about witches, warriors and triumphant women from Scotland, England and Appalachia. As we’re painfully aware right now, women, femmes, trans folks and so many others are dealing with a rise in sexism and discrimination. In this class we’ll explore how singing has always been not only a vital source of self-expression, but also a strategy to share tactics for survival.
In this 6 week class, participants will nestle into winter time and gather round the hearth to:
- Explore songs on women’s roles as witches, warriors, survivors and justice-seekers.
- Settle into the good feelings of “slow time” to learn the ancient art of ballad singing
- Learn historic tactics for bodily autonomy, freedom, sexual choice and collective liberation
- Create new songs inspired by tradition
Participants in the UK can take this class on Thursdays, 5:30-7:30pm GMT, starting January 16th.
