Other Choirs and Groups run by this Teacher
Ben Rhydding Community Choir was set up in 2011 by its Director Keely Hodgson. The choir welcomes all voices. We meet to sing together one Saturday morning each month (except August) to learn songs, socialise and raise awareness for the UK Charity “Give A Child A Hope” which supports a small community, The Revival Centre, Matugga, Uganda, comprising an orphanage, schools, clinic, vocation centre and farm.
The choir sings in a large concert setting once every two years to raise funds for The Revival Centre. We also perform at local events, community fetes, bandstands and train stations.
Our repertoire includes acapella arrangements of spiritual & gospel songs, folk & popular songs, songs from the African Continent and original songs from the Natural Voice Repertoire.
Covid-19: The choir has begun to meet in person with a reduced membership of 35 singers. This ensures that there is satisfactory distance between each singer in the rehearsal space. We continue to rehearse in St. John’s Church Hall with good ventilation and other mitigations in place to reduce the risk of virus transmission. There is a waiting list for anyone who would like to join in 2022. We continue to follow the advice for singing from Making Music UK and ABCD and will open up the membership to more singers after December 2021 if the Director and current membership are satisfied that we can continue to sing indoors without increasing the risk of virus transmission.
