In November I will be making a return visit to the lovely guest house, la Maison Anglaise in Taroudant, Southern Morocco, to lead a week of singing and exploring for women. I lived in Morocco in the late 70’s and it has been a real delight to reconnect with this extraordinary country and share my love of Morocco with others.
I have led two singing weeks for women in Taroudant, and with the support of a generous, kind and highly skilled team of Moroccan team at La Maison, we’ve had some wonderful experiences, singing, walking in mountains and olive groves, visiting a hammam (public bath), learning about the traditional Berber life, meeting local people, visiting traditional villages, visiting local cooperatives, cooking, learning Arabic, dancing to a traditional Berber Women’s band, exploring the town and local markets (Christmas presents sorted!) , swimming , singing as the sun rises and sets … I think a few people have managed to read and relax in the sun on the rooftop of La Maison from time to time.. and there were opportunities to have massages too. We’ve sung gently on the rooftop before breakfast and in the evenings …. and have sung pretty well everywhere we went … and we’ve shared insights, poetry, stories and jokes and have laughed a lot too.
La Maison Anglaise is a guest house right in the heart of Taroudant, a traditional town about 50 mins drive south of Agadir, off the tourist route . The holiday is hosted by Holidays with Heart, an organisation based in Wales which has won awards for ethical tourism. Proceeds from the holidays go to support the work of local cooperatives and the income really does benefit local people. Everyone who came last year was really impressed by the dedication and kindness of all the staff who looked after us so well…. And the food was delicious .
This holiday will suit women who enjoy the company of other women, who like to sing (whatever your previous experience) and want to learn more about Morocco and connect with people; to get the most out of the trip, as we do a lot as a group, it’s important to be a team player and have a good sense of humour and a good smattering of patience and flexibility!
Is clean, bright and comfortable and on 4 floors with no lift . The bedrooms (some of which are en suite) are nearly all shared and so it’s great if you can come with a friend; otherwise we’ll pair you up with someone friendly! If you know you are a snorer, there are possibly two single rooms or you could stay in a rhiad (a guesthouse) a short walk away if you need your privacy. ( this will cost a bit more)
Cost and Booking Procedure: The price for the week is £630 in a shared room () with a schedule of three payments to make budgeting easier if you wish. Price includes bed, breakfast and evening meals, two excursions, two cultural experiences and “A Feast for the Senses” plus transfers to and from the airport. It’s essential to book early to take advantage of cheap flights from London. Participant numbers are limited to 16 and the holiday tends to fill quickly.
