Date: 6 Nov 2016
Details: 10.00 to 16.30
Location: St Ebbe's Primary School, White House Rd, Oxford OX1 4NA
Run by: Stephen Taberner
Stephen Taberner, moderately well known via his own singing workshops in the UK, as well as his leadership of the Spooky Men’s Chorale, is offering a one day workshop which will explore the grand themes and gnarly minutiae of choirleading.
Particular areas of interest will be the finer points of arranging for mixed voices, how to get a great sound from a choir, and what it means to conduct. We will also consider the mysteries of group leadership and the ways in which the human emotiono-musico-landscape is curiously contagious and susceptible to many influences, both good and bad.
Previous experience has shown that the most satisfying methodology is to actually do things, rather than talk about them, so there will be a strong emphasis on THAT. accordingly, it will be totally fine to turn up as a choir “guinea pig” as well as coming as an actual or budding choirleader.
Stephen has been leading choirs and workshops for 23 years in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, amongst other places. He is largely self taught, but has satisfyingly been inspired by mentoring from Linda Wise (Pantheatre), Jo Estill, Ysaye Marie Barnwell (Sweet Honey in the Rock), Reinhardt Flatischler, and Bobby McFerrin.
