A Day of Exploring Your Voice with Mary Benefiel
Find out how the whole of you can come into play when you sing. We will work with your whole range of sounds, and the whole of you to empower your voice.
In the morning you can find out how chanting lays the groundwork for sound voicework. In this practice we stop looking for “results” – instead we allow the voice to come alive in the moment, however it is. By doing that, we make space for different qualities to emerge without pressure. I find that by allowing ourselves and our voices to just “be” we can discover untapped riches. This profound practice is enhanced by chanting together in a group. Previous experience is not required, nor do you need a religious affiliation. The songs and chants are from different traditions, and focus on compassion, release and empowerment.
The afternoon workshop will be the more active part of the day, where we get stuck into the nuts and bolts of singing with your whole being. Again, the guiding focus is starting from where you are, and developing an understanding of the voice you’ve walked in with. This is an exciting, stimulating, sometimes challenging but often enlightening process of self-discovery. I hope you will join me for either or both sessions of vocal exploration!
