Cake and Chorus! – Saturday 13th October 2018 – 1-5pm
What are they?
This event happens every 2 months and involves a group of singers, of all abilities and experience, coming together and ‘having a go’ at a big chorus from a larger piece of music, or a stand alone choral piece like a cantata, or a madrigal. There is no performance of the piece, just the satisfaction of having the experience of singing it in a no pressure, fun, friendly environment. We record it at the end of the day and send the recording by email to all who were involved.
Do I need experience?
No experience is needed; all you need is a good musical ear in order to learn your chosen part (audio parts will appear on the Members’ page a few weeks before the day; when you have booked and paid you will receive a password to use the Members’ page) and to follow a simple score; even if you can’t ‘read’ music you’ll find seeing the shape of the music, helpful. (the score will appear as a file for you to print off and follow along with the audio part). You will also receive lots of help on the day with putting the part together with your group.
All practice is done with me, at the piano, and in practice rooms, with a CD of your part, with your group.
How do I choose a part?
As we are a ‘non-traditional’ mixed choir, anything goes! You can listen to the parts on the Members’ page and pick the part you feel you would do a good job with, and that feels comfortable in your voice. We usually have ladies singing tenor and bass parts of a traditional piece as they suit the lower female voice. Male voices often suit the alto part as well as tenor and bass.
When you have chosen a part, let me know and I’ll add you to the list of that part.
Numbers are limited to 5 or 6 per part. There are usually 20-25 singers at these events.
