Lakeland Voices will be singing a selection of pub carols – including the Sheffield village carols, folk carols, west gallery carols – in the bar at the Gregson in Lancaster. Everyone is welcome to join in with all or part of the songs – many have choruses which are easy to pick up, or contact me to receive scores and/or word booklets. I’ll also make word sheets available at the bar.
Carols include the Boars Head Carol, Pentonville, Diadem, Old Foster, Curly Hark with some well known folk songs which celebrate the sentiment of this season of goodwill in a secular way such as Sing John Ball and Harbour. These are not the carols which you hear in churches at Christmas but are more usually heard in folk clubs, or in village pubs near Christmas in Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
We also sing a number of Slovenian carols which are becoming well known in the Uk such as Glej Zvezdice Božje and Božji nam je rojen Sin.
The event is free, but if you are inspired to do so, please make an online donation to a charity of your choice.
There are two workshops in October and November to learn the pub carols so you can join in in this session.
