Further information:

This training day will focus on methods and skills for teaching songs clearly and confidently. It is aimed at anyone who is involved in teaching songs to other people (or who would like to), whether it’s in an official workshop setting or in a more informal singing group with friends or colleagues.

There are a lot of things to think about when you’re teaching songs so, rather than trying to cover everything in one day, we shall focus on a few key elements. To make the training as relevant as possible to those attending, you are invited to contact Faith beforehand to discuss where you’re up to and what your personal training needs are at the moment. Faith will then tailor the day accordingly. To help you think about your current training needs, these are the kinds of issues that the day could address:

  • Finding and choosing appropriate songs
  • How to learn songs well enough to teach them
  • Counting in
  • Keeping the beat / changing the beat
  • Helping groups to keep the pitch
  • Helping groups with tricky rhythms, harmonies and words
  • Breaking songs down into manageable chunks
  • Beginnings and endings
  • Memory aids
  • Useful equipment
  • Awareness of different learning styles
  • Developing your own teaching style

The day will have a practical and personal element, with opportunities to try out your skills and reflect on your own practice. This allows you to concentrate on those areas that are of particular interest within the range of topics above, helping you to make the most of the training, whether this is your first step or you’re an experienced practitioner who wants to take time out to review and refresh your practice. You are therefore invited to contact Faith to discuss your personal training needs so that Faith can tailor the day to be most relevant to those who are attending. You don’t need to be able to read music.

Places on this course are limited to 16 participants. Booking is essential. Click here to book.

“Lots of handy hints and tips”

“That chattering inner voice that normally self-monitors has subdued, leaving me a bit more space to notice what else is happening and there’s more calm certainty that we’ll make it to the end of the song together.”
