Join a tour of this fabulous former Yugoslavian republic famous for the magnificence of its mountains, the hospitality of its people, and the quality of its singing. We will be staying in a country guest house and hotel with half-board accommodation, and one night with local singers, and singing alongside choirs in Bohinj, Bled, Zrece and Ljubljana – as well as visiting many other beautiful and interesting places.
Transport is provided in Slovenia, but not flights – which currently are very cheap with Easyjet from Stansted – the week starts at Ljubljana airport at 17:00, and there are other cheap flights from Gatwick with Easyjet and Luton with Wizzair.
Several of us are also going on the train using Interrail passes – via London, Brussels, Stuttgart and a day in the Black Forest mediaeval town of Rottweil. Then on via Munich to Ljubljana on the Blue Gentian train in old fashioned compartments ideally arranged for harmony singing. On the way back we will stay in the French mediaeval town of Parthanay and sing with the community choir there before taking the train back to the UK via Poitiers and Paris. Budget accommodation in Rottweil and Parthanay – or B&Bs. We are getting the 5 days in one month Interrail passes and the London-Paris Eurostar.
Songs will include some arrangements of Slovenian folk songs and other songs in English – which can be sent in advance for home study – there will also be singing workshops in advance here in Cumbria, and in Slovenia, as well as concerts – and includes singing at the wonderful Wild Flower festival in Bohinj.
Accommodation is half board (ie breakfast and evening meal) in twin and double rooms (nearly all en suite.) Lunches either get packed lunches, or eat in cafes. The food is home cooked and delicious. The singing is scrumptious.
