Having discovered Brendan Taaffe‘s compositions through his vocal group Bright Wings Chorus, we have enjoyed excellent singing workshops with him several times in Bath & a wonderful singing week in the South of France which he co-led with Jane Harris in 2016. We look forward to Brendan’s return to Bath on his 2017 UK tour.
Expect a rich variety of songs: gospel quartets, makwayera songs from Zimbabwe, and Brendan’s own compositions. Songs with compelling rhythms, evocative harmonies, and themes that speak to everyday life, that come from participatory, community-based traditions and draw people together around the world. The workshops are further enriched by hearing Brendan perform a couple of solo songs with mbira and listening to source recordings and the singing of the Bright Wings Chorus – CDs available on Brendan’s website.
The harmonies were wonderful, the pace ideal and the choice of songs inspired.
The founder of Turtle Dove, Brendan is a composer and arranger who has toured with Northern Harmony, and led vocal workshops in Ireland, Bulgaria, England, Scotland, Germany, Holland, Zimbabwe, and the US.
