Additional information

I have been a member of the Natural Voice Network since 2010, which was around the time that I started to co-lead Sing The World in its present form. I now run the group on my own alongside my other job. Sharing songs, harmonies and wonderful words bring a creative side to my life that uplifts me and I know that choir members feel uplifted too, along with the people who we occasionally perform to.

I’ve loved singing with others from an early age and at primary school we were lucky enough to sing every day in assembly, and have extra class singing sessions around the piano. I was also in the church choir in the village I grew up in.

Life got busy for a while but the passion was re-kindled in my late twenties, when I got together with a group of friends in Newbury to share songs for the love of it.  We also performed locally at birthdays and at other events such as Green Party and Friends of the Earth gatherings.  We eventually grew in number and hired a hall to sing in; we also hired a Natural Voice Practitioner from Oxford to lead the group.   My portfolio of songs gradually grew from attending this and many other workshops and singing camps all over England and I gained in confidence by occasionally leading songs in this earlier group from about 2004.

I believe that singing is something that everyone can join in with and that it is beneficial to health and well being to sing regularly. I thoroughly enjoy the wonderful singing community that I am part of.

Sing the World
Description

Sing The World is a Newbury-based a capella community choir, which has been running successfully now using Natural Voice principles since 2011. We foster a relaxed and friendly approach to a capella singing for pleasure. The choir is fully inclusive, and no previous experience is required. Songs are mostly learnt by ear, and so you don’t need to be able to read sheet music to join us, and there are no auditions – complete beginners and experienced singers are equally welcome. I aim to make our sessions uplifting, energising and inspiring – just come along and enjoy the harmonies! Occasionally some of us perform but if that is not your thing then no worries!

The cost is £48 for the 6 session term.

New members are very welcome.

Session times

Monday evenings 7.30 - 9.30pm twice a month
