I love the folk songs of Britain and across the globe. I arrange for my choirs.
I studied music at arts college and was drawn into singing as a vehicle for healing and community. I also discovered folk song, which is the style I generally work with. I have run a folk choir in Bristol for 15 years whilst growing my family. I run workshops and singing walks when life allows and have just tentatively begun sharing my folk song arrangements with other choirs.
I have a good grounding in the workings of the voice and offer singing lessons focussed on unlocking the voice and enabling more people to access this important work. I see it as an act of resistance and activism to raise our voices.
Gloucester Folk Choir have been singing together since Feb 2023, they sing a variety for folk and folk leaning songs from a variety of traditions. They perform semi-regularly as a way of bedding in the songs and sharing them with the wider community.
The focus for the choir is on the songs and on finding a place of ‘Comfidence’ (comfort + confidence) in their voices and in the songs. Song are playfully taught and explored with Sorrels guidance and support.
Voice technique is embedded in each practice, gently encouraging greater resonance and harmonic beauty.
Payment is £7 per session, cash or card at the start of the session.
Thursday evenings, 7-8:30
The Island Folk Choir have been running almost 15 years, under various guises as it has developed. We are currently about 40 strong and sing songs from Britain and beyond. The songs we choose tend to be meaty in subject matter and we enjoy a good murder ballad or drinking song. As a choir we are non-auditioning and open to all, and as a leader I focus on getting singing to feel great for the singers and in turn it generally sounds great too. We perform about once per 7 week block, usually at community events and ceilidhs. We have a yearly choir camp on the first weekend of Sept.
Tuesday evening.
