I co-lead Hackney Voices, a community choir singing world music, open to all.
I co-lead Hackney Voices with Cleo Lane, teaching songs from the rich and varied local traditions of Africa, the Caribbean, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, France and Spain as well as British/Celtic folk songs, and our own arrangements of classic soul and pop songs.
Joanna (Jo) Foster and Cleo Bayley co-lead this choir.
We aim to cover a whole range of material, from easy to more challenging stuff in a relaxed and fun way and to make sure that everyone is singing the kind of part that suits them. Cleo and Jo teach songs from the rich and varied local traditions of Africa, The Caribbean, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, France and Spain as well as British/Celtic folk songs. They also teach their own arrangements of classic soul and pop songs.
There is no audition, and we welcome adults of all ages and stages; the only requirement is your desire to sing! The sessions are friendly and informal and everything is taught by ear so don’t worry if you don’t read music. We welcome everyone from ‘only in the bath’ singers to ‘would be performers’.
Tuesday evenings 7.30 – 9.25pm, with a 15 minute tea break around 8.30pm.
