My new ventures:
‘First Sunday Folk and Sea Shanties’ in Teignmouth. I’m very excited to bring my love of all things folk to this vibrant seaside town. Monthly sessions, first Sunday of the month, 2-4pm.
‘Excellent Exeter Sings!’ This weekly choir has arisen out of a WhatsApp group for people new-ish to Exeter who want to network and make friends! It’s a lovely group of lively, keen and capable singers and we’re open to new singers.
I have been leading my weekly choir, Riversong, for eight years and have run other community choirs during that time. My choirs are warm and welcoming, whether you are an experienced singer or new to choirs.
Our repertoire is varied, with everything from simple jazzy rounds to full-bodied folk songs from around the world. We occasionally sing popular songs, but I mainly teach material written for or arranged specially for natural voice choirs as these are so rich and varied. I teach songs in harmony, and find that even the most inexperienced singer can hold a harmony part when supported by others. This is the joy of singing together in groups. I can often provide a more challenging part for the confident singers, whether a solo or a more tricky additional harmony. This keeps everyone interested and provides a challenge for those who want it.
Choirs are held during term time, with breaks which roughly follow the school terms. I usually continue through autumn and spring half terms. Please feel free to contact me about any of the above.
Riversong has been established in its current form for six years and is currently a small, friendly group of up to 15 singers.
We sing songs from around the world and closer to home, with sumptuous harmonies and extra challenging parts for those who want them. I find that even inexperienced singers can sing harmonies within a supportive group.
We perform occasionally. We are soon to join forces with two other choirs to sing in Dartington Great Hall. This will be a really fun event with a seasonal feel.
