The Freedom Choir invites singers to experience the power and joy of singing in harmony. Led by musician and vocalist Elizabeth Melvin, songs are taught by rote or by call and response. Lyrics and recorded learning tracks are provided for members on the choir website.
Singers are thrilled at how easy it is to improve their musical skills when singing in a harmony section with others. Beautiful 3- and 4-part harmonies quickly unfold as the group comes together to sing in a safe, supportive and relaxed atmosphere.
The repertoire draws from an amazing variety of sources, including South African freedom songs, Irish blessings, Southern gospel, African American civil rights songs, rounds, chants and originals written by Elizabeth Melvin.
The Freedom Choir meets in two locations to choose from, twice a week. (Wednesday mornings, Annapolis and Thursday evenings, Severna Park, MD). The choir is not affiliated with any specific religious creed and seeks to build a community of caring people united by the experience of sharing song.
Fees are charged for each multi-week session and payment plans are available. A sliding scale is available, and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Wednesdays, 11am - 12 noon or Thursdays, 7:30 - 8:30pm
