Apart from primary school choirs and singing to my children when they were small I have spent most of my life not doing any particularly musical or singing much at all. However, it has always been there pulling at me like a little magnet. The wish to sing with others but I really had so many internal ways of stopping myself.
Over the last few years my relationship with my voice has completely changed thanks to some amazing teachers. Singing with others feels like remembering what it’s like to truly be human and has brought such joy to my life that I feel driven to share this with my community. I believe everybody has an innate musical ability as their birth right.
In Autumn 2022 I signed up for a course called “Vocal Transformation” with Briony Greenhill as it was geared towards finding your voice and stepping into singing with others using CVI techniques (Collaborative Vocal Improvisation). This was life changing for me and in 2024 I completed a year-long “Wild Voice Sold Roots” course with Briony and I am currently one of two assistants on a year-long course called “Singing the Unseen”. I have also attending workshops with other teachers in the UK vocal improv scene: Kate Smith, Randolph Matthews, Jaka Skapin and Guillermo Rozenthuler.
I have recently completed my Singing Mamas training with Kate Valentine and I am working towards starting a local group in Taunton, Somerset.
I currently co-facilitate a small Women’s Singing Circle in the Quantocks which is based around CVI and offers a brave space to explore vocally with fun games and tender moments singing from the heart.
