I grew up in Minnesota, land of choral music! with wonderful music teachers in school and a couple of far-seeing piano teachers who let me perform my own compositions alongside Bach and Mozart in recitals. Fast forward to high school in Connecticut, again good teachers! and I was able to be student director for the high school chorus and to accompany most of the musical stage productions. College too was full of opportunities.
Fast forward again, and after college I moved to Brattleboro, Vermont, a wonderful haven for folk musicians and artists of all sorts, and found myself “at home”. I taught elementary school music, gave piano lessons, and toured and taught as a storyteller, finally landing again in choral music. I founded the Brattleboro Women’s Chorus in 1996, joined Animaterra of Keene as their director in 2016, and appreciate being able to lead both men and women at the Second Congregational Church in Londonderry, Vermont. I enjoy singing in an a cappella quartet, Big Woods Voices. In the past year I have sung a jazz cabaret with my dear friend Alki Steriopoulos playing piano, and started publishing my music as Chimsee Music Publishing.
I have written and arranged a good deal of music for women’s voices, available on my website. I continue to expand into some of my other musical interests: improvisation, sound healing, and cabaret.
