Hello, I’m Emma and I live and work in Bristol, UK. I head up a network of Gospel Choirs here in Bristol, Gospel Generation Community Choir, and have been leading now for about 8 years. It’s something I fell into really; I joined the choir, became good friends with the lady who was then leading it (Geraldine Latty) and over the next couple of years began to have a go at leading myself, being mentored along the way. It was something I discovered I loved doing! GGCC is now five choirs that meet across the city of Bristol for their weekly rehearsals and then come together as one big choir for concerts and community events. My aim with all the choirs is to provide a fun, friendly, safe environment for anyone who wants to have a go at Gospel singing. I love hearing stories about how people come to choir maybe feeling sad or lonely and go away feeling energised, happy and more hopeful. Singing these songs together really does change people’s lives.
When I’m not leading my choirs, I love to lead singing workshops. I visit schools, community centres and churches providing fun, lively sessions designed to introduce people to the joy of singing in a group. I have also helped set and run an annual Gospel singing conference called ‘Sing’, here in Bristol.
I also love to write my own songs. I compose incidental music for short films and I have also written songs sung by my choirs.
