Gill Grech

I have always loved singing since I was a toddler and I started singing with Mother and toddler groups when my children were born. I love singing and the absolute joy it brings to people and when I joined the NVN in 2011, I wanted to create warm and friendly groups where people were really able to find their voice through song and laughter. I started Purbrook Community Choir that same year which has now grown to over 50 members. I absolutely love learning new songs and watching them develop into performances and seeing the choir get a real sense of achievement.

I also lead Southsea Songbirds, also with around 50 members, a wonderful supportive group of ladies who love singing together. I run a U3A choir and a Saturday workshop which meets monthly and is very popular. I co-lead Beating the Blues, set up for people feeling low who are able to meet up weekly and sing together. It’s an amazing group and we have a great deal of fun. I run a well-being group in Drayton for the MHA organisation which is set along the same structure. I also co-lead alongside Janet Ayers annually Sing for Water Portsmouth which is now in it’s eleventh year.

i have met and sung with some amazing people over the last 10 years and really feel that alongside my choirs and the joy of singing together, we have inspired others to sing with us. I feel privileged to do the job i do and to be part of this amazing, supportive network.
