Abby is the Musical Director of Swindon’s ‘friendliest community choir’, BigSingThing. Weekly rehearsals average 70-80 members, with emphasis on enjoyment through song. The choir perform frequently, but members aren’t obliged to commit to any performances, and are more than welcome to attend for the weekly sessions for a good old sing. The choir do not use sheet music, instead learning by ear with lyric sheets. Their largest arrangement to date contains seven vocal lines, which was an achievement. The choir are always welcoming new members, and would also welcome friendly visiting choirs / consider visiting likeminded choirs around the UK! To date, the choir have raised over £9000 for charities.
Abby also leads two vocal ensembles: The Songbirds and The Noteables. These groups benefit from closer contact, so more chance to work on their vocal and performing skills.
Abby greatly enjoys directing a choir for local charity, Swindon Carers’ Centre. This provides local carers with a chance to take part in singing activities and take a break from their caring commitments.
She is also about to launch a ‘Singing for Lung Health’ group in Swindon, on behalf of the British Lung Foundation, having recently trained for the role.
