Singing with others has always been one of the great loves of my life. Sharing that love with people who lack such opportunities is what motivates me in my work as a singing leader.

Ten years ago, Fran Flower and Jennie Fisk and I formed Music In our Bones which launched as a charity in April 2016. Team teaching, the aim is to offer joyful, accessible, affordable, singing workshops to people who often do not consider themselves as ‘singers’. We proactively attract Family Carers and people managing long-term physical and mental health issues in particular and have a profound interest in the health and well-being benefits of singing. Together, and with local NVN members Helen Rolfe, Trish Bessell and Denise Steward, we have created eight singing communities which meet fortnightly or monthly across Suffolk (details on our website).

I lead YoxVox monthly, sharing the leadership of this lively community choir in Yoxford with Helen Rolfe and in addition have started my own group, SongRise, which meets fortnightly in the beautiful Queen Anne Room at Old Hall, East Bergholt.

‘Way Beyond the Blue’ is the women’s quartet I adore singing with and another current joy in my life comes from singing with a dozen other women in Sian Croose’s Harmonium in Norwich.
