This is based on the lyrics of the carol “Green Growth the Holly” which was allegedly composed by Henry VIII. This arrangement has been tried and tested every year at Bradford-on-Avon pub carols and the local choirs have learned the harmony parts.
There is an optional high descant for the last 8 bars of the song that can soar over the top of the other parts. Another option that works well is for the parts to be staggered at the beginning of the first verse, the sopranos singing the first 2 bars, before being joined by the altos, followed by the tenors and basses in turn.
