Mother Hear Me Calling is a heartful short chant in 3 parts that works well either as an opening or closing song to bring people into the present moment and their bodies. It’s been used with groups of 20 up to 200+. Janna says “I wrote it after a beautiful women’s retreat I participated in, and I think the words speak for themselves.”
The altos have the lead tune; the parts are easy but there’s some challenge in hitting the notes and keeping the pitching on the word ‘calling’ to really make the harmonies sit. It also works in just two parts (soprano & alto). Movement-wise, it’s effective to get singers to raise their arms on the first part of the phrase and draw back placing them on the heart in the second half of the phrase.
